Has anyone seen these signs around our fair city ?

I only encountered my first one last week @ Fortitude Valley State School on St Paul’s Terrace. Previous to this, I had been ignorant of this trial initiative by the Brisbane City Council to avail select school ovals for public use over the Christmas holidays. Some participating schools were Buranda, Kelvin Grove, Cannon Hill, Morningside and Murrarie.

Listen here to Geoff Wilson (State Minister for Education) chatting on ABC Breakfast late last year about the scheme.

It seems like a great idea and I’m keen to hear what people thought about it …

So, what’s the deal, Can-Do-Campbell ?

Did it work ?

Does this mean you’ve come to the realisation that BrizVegas is desperate for more quality public open space ?

Thanks in advance for getting back to us.

  1. YES !! I have actually hidden in the shadows beneath a tree in this exact school ground, foot-sore and craving free clean public space in the filthy concrete jungle/freeway that is the Valley. On a break from work and avoiding being spotted by the police or creeps loitering around school grounds after dark, I enjoyed some respite in this "sub-tropical oasis" (haha).

There did used to be a few more hidden green spots to rest in in this suburb some years ago, but all have been bulldozed away or privatised and landscaped behind high security gates. Imagine the cultural and social life that might actually happen if the Valley had a single supervised public park. Save the Moreton Bay Figs !!
